Stonykill Disc Golf Course Update 7/29/13
By Gene Gierka, DisCap Liaison to Stonykill Disc Golf Course 518-857-3368 [email protected]
Stonykill Disc Golf Course has been approved by the town of Chatham NY for 104 acres on Route 295 surrounding the Town Hall and transfer station, ending on property across frol Solaqua.
This is more than enough land to have 18, even 36 holes.
Members of DisCap, and staff from the town are currently working on a 9 hole course behind the Town Hall, while waiting for the gravel mine to be exhausted before beginning designs using the rest of the land available . It costs about $500 per hole to have 2 concrete tee pads (professional and beginner) and 1 basket per hole. We will also have some benches, and tee signs at every hole. The more funds we raise the nicer the course can be.
CURRENT STATUS:
The local disc golf club, DisCap, has been helping us with this project. They have a design team which is waiting for the Chatham Town Highway Department to finish using the gravel mine that is on the land. So work continues on the 9 holes before the gravel mine is exhausted. The town estimates the gravel may be exhausted by October of this year.
A fundraising tournament will be held on August 17th, 2013 at 10 AM to introduce local players to the new 9 hole course, which is playable, although not yet complete.

NEWS FROM THE LAST ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE STONY KILL DISC GOLF COMMITTEE on 7/25/12
Stephen Vardin resigned as Liaison to DisCap, since he bought a house in Guilderland and is too busy remodeling and moving until December. Gene Gierka and Nathan Davis will share the task. I am sure they will … do a great job organizing the volunteers and effort.
NEXT MEETINGS: Sat 8/18/12 9 AM at Chatham Town Hall parking lot: Stonykill Bushwhack: Wear tick proof clothes. Bring portable baskets. We will scope out the idea of building 9 or so holes that will become a training center once the Awesome World Class 18 is put in as soon as we can use the gravel pit. We will also roam the rest of the property to check it out, especially the weird grass land south of the gravel pit.
Wed 8/22/12 6:00 PM Joralemon Park: Next organizational meeting. We will play a slow starting round so we can have our meeting as we play.
Previous info:
Stayed tuned for information on the soon to be constructed Disc Golf course which will be constructed at the Chatham Town Hall on Rt. 295 in Chatham.
Stephen Vardin writes:
“I will be leading the creation of the Disc Golf Course on 295. We will be designing the course over the winter of 2012 and hope to construct it over the spring and summer. We will be starting fundraising soon. The course will be paid for by donations (DisCap, the Capital District Disc Golf Club is a 501-c-3 charity) and business sponsorships. It costs about $500 per hole. That pays for a basket, cement tee, and a sign. The more money we raise the more amenities the course can have. I can be contacted at [email protected] or 518-365-3157. The more volunteers we have the better! Check out the club website for all the local disc golf happenings http://www.discap.net”
